community

i’m reading a book called “life together” by dietrich bonhoeffer. It’s a great book! He was a priest in Germany during WWII and he was arrested for being a part of the plot to assassinate hitler. (he was actually asked to be chaplain of this group) While he was in prison, he wrote this book.
I tried reading it a while ago, and for some reason, just couldnt. but now it seems that it has been opened to me and i am just soaking it in. i’m going to share stuff from it. feel free to let me know your thoughts, and if you’ve read the book, or you want to, join me and we can discuss it here, or maybe i’ll start a book discussion blog… who knows?!

Bonhoeffer is talking about Christians needing one another to share the words of scripture with one another. He is saying that our ties are in Christ, for we all have the same thing in common- the death/burial/resurrection of Christ and now, we have an immediate need to support one another. Christs achievement of obedience set the standard for our goal of obedience.
one thing that should be considered here is that upon accepting Christ, we are immediately drawn into a relationship with others. Christ never meant for us to be loners and to do life outside the community, simply because he knew that it would be tough, too tough for us to handle on our own. I believe that’s why you rarely saw christ by himself in scripture, he always had people around him. For me, one of the biggest tragedies of our day is when someone is not made aware of the reality that life cant be done (and shouldn’t be done) alone. We were made for community.
I believe we are meant to speak scripture to one another, to encourage one another with those Holy words that bind us together in our common goal to be obedient to Christ.
I see it more and more in our community: the subtle attack of the enemy to seperate Christ’s followers through self sufficiency. I see it alot in my own community. there are men that are dear to me that dont share in one another’s lives and dont breathe scripture to one another, and i can tell that on the inside they are close to death. It’s quite sad. The enemy has a way of encouraging us to build walls through hurts and pains and shames that we sometimes cant get over… without a solid community to encourage with scripture and share in those times.
It is good to know that people and scripture are close at hand for us most of us.
Share a word with a brother or sister… who knows what they’re dealing with.

yesterday, oakleaf did an amazing thing. they gave back the offering. a total of $8300 went out in an event to re-gift into the community. The idea was to give back to the church in an attempt for the the church to give back to the community in the name of Christ. BRILLIANT!!!!!
My dad, who doesnt really get excited about much, had this look of amazement and excitement when we told him about what the church had done. He and my mom both told me that they had never heard of anything like this before and that it was truly an amazing thing.
anyway, go check out, www.servecartersville.com for a little taste of the goodness.

i heard a really good message tonight from my buddy Paul Richardson, the outreach pastor at westridge. He was speaking at an event, it’s more like a church inside a church, called genesis. if you look at it from the surface, you would say it’s the singles ministry, but knowing tim, the pastor and his vision for where this is going, it’s more like a movement.
This gathering happens every thursday night at westridge at 730. there is a coffee bar, resource table and plenty of people to connect with. The band is great, and Tim is an excellent communicator.
mp3’s of the messages are available for download.
i’ll link to pauls message as soon as it becomes available.
i laid the truth that he was teaching over my own life and realized what a prideful man i am. it wasnt an easy thing.
“i am your humble servant. i’ve done what you asked me to do.” Luke seventeen.

non paul.

ok. so i have looked into a few more things on brother ron.
check out this article.
appearantly ron paul has been taking contributions from white supremist, racist and neo-nazi’s. i had first heard that contributions had come in from the KKK, but that was only the beginning. after reading this article , i was appalled at Ron Pauls campaign to lack of response to the questions that were asked.
there have been many responses to this article written about his contribution list. the original post of this article was found on this page.
if you scroll down past the original post, you will find someone had posted a request for a answer from the ron paul camp to this article, and the responses start here.

i guess when you finally have someone that speaks out against government, the groups that are anti-government want to support that person.
one thing that i thought was interesting was one person’s comment from the Ron Paul campaign was “why give the money back? if we give the money back, they will just be able to use it for their own operations.”
sounds to me like Ron Paul is either in bed with these guys or has a back door approach to funding his campaign and shutting them down.

i will try to find more on ron pauls civil rights policies. i bet he supports civil rights. what moron running for office wouldn’t.

hybels

I have been bothered to the core lately.
i heard recently that bill hybels has apologized for the way he has done church for the past thirty years. I read an article on the christianity today website and it proved one of my worst fears…. the secular business minded church.
where does the secular business world coincide with the church?

your thoughts?

ron paul

i have been searching out who i would like to be our next president. i have been looking into ron paul. i like him.
i’m torn because i feel like this country will need someone who will step in line and keep things in order, but i would like to see someone like Ron Paul get in there and shake things up a little. Is this country ready for a little shaking? i dont know. maybe. maybe not.
Ron Paul wants to pull all our troops out from everywhere in the world. I personally think this is a bad idea. We have made some folks mad in other parts of the world, and i think that if we leave, they’ll come visit us… or try to.
i have to say that i wish we would have just left things alone, gotten a little more trusty intellegence before we decided to change the world with rockets.
Ron paul wants to do away with the IRS and go to a national sales tax. i’m down with that. my only concern is, who is going to get hurt in the process. the poor? the rich? i’d rather see the rich empty their pockets. Actually, i’d really like joyce meyer to sell the $30,000 toilet she had installed in her mansion and pay for the children in bamboo, jamaica get a decent education. (sidenote)
I read an article the other day where he was saying that he wanted to do away with the federal reserve so we would stop creating credit, and so we could live within our means as a country. God only know what will happen if that should ever go through.
overall, i like ron paul. i think our hearts beat the same rhythym.

green.

it should be a way of life.
the fine folks at news week were calling for global cooling some years ago. so, if the globe was cooling, then why are they freaking out about global warming. it seems to me like a nice balance.
i also heard the other day that the chief meteorologist/ ceo at the weather channel is saying that the global warming scare is the biggest scam in the history of this country.
The warmest year to date is still 1934.
I’ll believe all of this when the climatologist sell their suburbans, mansions and jets and start riding bikes.
efficiency is not hard. just be sensible.
live simply.
